So, after a couple years of medicating with cannabis, I was definitely seeing major progress in my pain and healthier sleep patterns. Unfortunately, I was still feeling weird, or best described as, hung over. So, in my head, I was left wondering, am I really better or is this a sign that my issues are coming back?

To the doctor’s office, I go again for a follow-up and have the discussion about my symptoms to my doctor. He is not a consumer, and not many of his patients are, maybe he would not be able to answer if this was normal, or just a side effect. When I left his office, I was determined that there was a solution and I was going to figure it out! These tired mornings and coughing at night when I sleep could not continue. Morning after morning, waking up with a sore throat and having to cough up phloem in order to get my normal voice back was not ideal for my life, as I medicated.

So, like everyone else, when you search for solutions you just ask Google, right? As my research went along, most people were talking about edibles instead of smoking, I was skeptical. The more I researched, I found vaporizers, for cannabis. Who knew you could vape it! This really got me thinking, and I then concentrated my research on vaporizers, but 6 years ago vaping was not mainstream yet. All the smokers bashed it and there were not many positive interviews online.

So, I went online and found a company that sold cannabis vaporizers. I made a decision to purchase a model based on price, the Vapman. It was a great little device, but not for beginners. It was very challenging to get the right temperature and technique, to produce vapor and not to combust your product. After a few weeks, I was getting frustrated and decided on getting a battery operated one to see if that would make the learning curve easier.

Well, I was right because the day I received my Solo, it was a match made in heaven! I had never tasted such flavor in cannabis and the effects were completely different! I was in love with it as the flavor and the ease of use was just what I was looking for all along. After just a few weeks of vaping my breathing and overall issues finally, all went away! Could this be a miracle device? Are there others like it out there? Is this the best unit out there? As I grew more and more passionate about this new alternative to smoking my cannabis, I wanted more.

At this point, I was getting to become a vaporizer pusher, as I bragged about this technology to all my friends. The more I researched, the more I wanted to get new units to try out. Then I noticed the more I researched, the more I noticed that reviewers only wanted to get high and ran the units at max temps to get big ass clouds to imitate smoking. But to me vaping was not that, it was more for taste discovery, better effects, and obviously healthier solution! So, I then thought, maybe I can start promoting vaporizers and talk about the actual use of the unit. I wanted to educate people on how beneficial it is to your health, making the switch from smoking. And that is how it all started……

So here I found myself at the age of 38, married, 2 beautiful daughters, a dog and a cannabis prescription for pain management and sleep aid ……..wait back up! A prescription for using cannabis from my Dr. what universe have I crossed into?
Yeah I’ll admit for a few days I felt kinda untouchable and was a hero to my friends as I had the ok to smoke cannabis, but after a few days, the struggle was real! What do I get? Where do I register for a dispensary? Indica? Sativa? Shit, there is even hybrid. What am I getting myself into? Seemed when I was in high school pot was pot ……well not anymore.
So back to the pc and start doing my research again and after a few weeks, I finally decided on a dispensary to register with and finally make my first order. If I remember right I chose Happy Feet for my first discover strain, which was a strong Sativa. So when I finally get my medication in hand, I take a look it and notice there full buds! Geez, last time I bought cannabis 20 years ago it came in the form of a joint. Crap now what? Called one of my close friends and asked he if was up for an adventure ….lol
The first thing he said was so how are you planning on smoking it? Pipe? Roll up a joint? Use a bong? Shit, I never taught of that. After talking and him sharing some input, I got in the car and drove out of town to a little store was they sold some smoking supplies. I felt like the first time I had to buy condoms! So I walk in and start to browse the aisles and grab some chips, pop and walk up to the register to pay and the man asks “will that be all”, I look behind me to make sure no one is around and softly ask “can I also get a pipe”, Man how embarrassing that was.
Ok so now that I have my pipe and have a basic idea of what to do, I go home and ask my wife “ are the kids sleeping ?” Yes, why do you ask she replied? Well, I need to take my new meds and I don’t want them to see me do it. So I load my pipe and went outdoors in a dark corner of the porch and try my first toke. I soon found myself thinking, do they call it a “toke” because it rhymes with choke?

In my mid-thirties, something changed, almost overnight.  My body and mind just started their own game to see who could win the battle of getting full control! What to do and who could help? That was the start of my journey to wellness with the help of cannabis.
It all started as my arms started to tingle a bit. Sometimes even sending these painful shocks down from my shoulders to my elbows, but it was not an everyday occurrence. To me, it was just the feeling of,  oh I must have pulled something yesterday kind of pain. But as the years went on it recurred more and more often. Sometimes it would even wake me up at night, as it was so painful!
When the sleepless nights and the zombie state of mind during the days took over. My wife and I started to get worried that something serious was happening to my body. So, I started consulting my family doctor about it. Like most doctors, he prescribed me some anti-inflammatory meds and some sleeping pills. This went on with regular follow-ups, but I was not getting any better. After many consultations and wasted time my Dr asked me, “have you ever considered smoking pot?”
“Ehhhhh umm, what,” I asked. Then it clicked, my doctor had just asked me to consider cannabis for my pain control! I then answered in a low voice, “When I was a kid, I used to consume, but it was just a fad.” As he looked at me, I then confessed well, “I might consume once in a while during a fishing trip with the boys, as we drink beer around the fire, but no more than that! Come on, I’m an adult with a family.” He then gave me a bunch of literature on cannabis, as well as, documents on how some patients swore it helped them with pain control and as a sleep aid.
As the notion of consuming cannabis on a daily basis, was still sinking in, my first reaction was, “What about my children? What the hell am I going to tell them?” I have so many questions, so many negative feelings. We were brought up that pot was a bad thing, a gateway to more powerful drugs and now, my family doctor wants me to smoke it daily?!?
After a few days of discussing this with my wife, I took the decision to give it a try as I had nothing to lose. That is when I got my first prescribed cannabis note from my family Dr. From there my life has changed and I have educated myself, and during that journey, I have learned so much about this amazing forbidden flower!
That is how cannabis was introduced to me as an adult for pain control and sleep aid. Now after 8 years of consuming cannabis, I am still educating myself as well as trying to end the stigma.

Ever considered a vaporizer but found it too expensive…….Vaping in 2018 is going mainstream and the technology is changing so fast it’s crazy!
To answer everyone’s question “wow that is expensive…why should I pay so much for one”. Here are my suggestions when considering your new vaporizer purchase.
First off, how much do you pay for your quality bud and concentrates? Many do not look or hesitate on forking out big bucks on quality meds, so why use underrated/underdeveloped vaporizers to consume the best meds??? Most consumers that are making the switch to vaping buy a cheaper vaporizer but within a few days after, most opt for a better unit anyways. Trust me after tasting and feeling the vaping experience you will be hooked and left wanting more. Save your money and buy the right one first! Do your research, ask questions and plan a budget.

So are you going to choose a conduction, convection or hybrid vaporizer? Oh, there are other heat sources as well like halogen butane there are so many choices.  Oh, and there are portables or desktop vaporizers also. When you have done your homework on the technology and know more what you want for results, then go and get yourself a good vaporizer unit.

But whatever you decide, do not let the price tag make the decision for you. The health part is also something to consider as without combustion it is obviously a better choice than smoking as well. You might pay more money than first expected but it will pay off very fast as you use way less medication.

Trust me when the terps and pure flavours hits your taste buds on the first session with your expensive meds, you will not regret your decision. So, what are you waiting for? Start your research and make your decision. Order that vaporizer, the longer you wait the more you will hate yourself later for not making the switch earlier.
Vape on!
Mike
