Great Vapour Production

Yup Flowermate put out another vape unit and not many realize that it’s available. Not sure why they did not advertise the Slick more cause it’s a little gem!

Unboxing (what’s inside)

Ok guys before we get into details of the Slick lets get this vape unboxed. As for the presentation it’s just a basic plastic molded insert that holds the unit in place. Not much wow factor to the presentation but I was expecting that as this vape is only priced at $79.95US. The box itself is clean and well explained with some bright orange statements and back making it stick out. Here is the list of accessories that come with it.

  • The Slick unit
  • 18650 High Drain 2500mAh Battery
  • OIl/Waxy Pod
  • Flower Pod
  • Micro USB Cable
  • 5X Stainless Chamber Screens
  • 5X Stainless Mouthpiece Screens
  • Packing/Dabbing Tool
  • Cleaning Brush
  • Warranty Card
  • Instructions Manual

As you noticed you get the typical vape accessories included with most units.

Before Using

Before you start using the Slick you will want to charge the battery. When waiting for it to charge I normally get the ISO out with some Q-Tips and start the cleaning process. Why should you clean a new unit? Well you are going to want to rid it of all manufacturing oils and residue. This is not a must but if you start this way you will definitely help to get the best flavours out of its first initial use. I typically just wipe down the oven walls with the Q-Tip dipped in ISO , then also do the mouthpiece. Then when the battery is fully charged you will want to do some burn offs and maximum temp as well. There now you should be set to start your first session.

How to instructions

The Slick is very simple to use. In case you did not notice there is only one button. So the interface is very simple but works great. The typical turn on/off way is 5 quick clicks , then to switch temps all you do is a 3 quick clicks to scroll thru the 3 preset temps. Blue is the lowest temp (385F) , Green(405F) and the max temperature one is Red(420F). I was a little disappointed when seeing only 3 preset temps. After using it a few times the blue is perfect to start a sesh then bump it up to green to finish it. So the 3 temps are perfect and let’s face it this is not a high end unit.

When the sesh stops after 5 minutes to restart it all you need to do is hold down the button for 2 seconds and it will start heating up right away. This vaporizer heats up fast! Oh and did I mention it vibrates when it gets to temp and before it goes to sleep after the 2 minute sesh. Yup and all this for a super low price of $79.95US.

Performance

For the best performance of the Slick you will need to pack the oven well cause it is a conduction unit. I love using a fine grind for great vapour production. On the blue setting the first and lowest temp this will deliver some really tasty hits for the first 3 to 4 draws. Plus the vapour will be visible and smooth. For having the oven directly under the mouthpiece I was very surprised.

On the medium temperature setting ,the blue one , I use on the second sesh of the same bowl. At this temp the vapour is still not harsh but the flavour is very diminished, but the vapour produced is thick and powerful. I also tried this temp setting with a fresh bowl , but prefered starting at the lower temps as it produces better flavours.

Now for the highest temp the red setting. This temperature I would not recommend to use for flower but they do include an oil/waxy pod so this would be why the last temp is so high. At the time of the review I had not tried the oil/waxy pod as in the past they just did not perform well.

Pros and Cons

The Slick has so many pros to list.

  • Magnetic Mouthpiece Cover
  • Removable 18650 battery
  • Simple to Use
  • Produces Nice Vapour
  • The Price!!
  • Glass Mouthpiece
  • Battery Life
  • Vibrates When Turning Unit On/Off
  • Vibrates After Session before going in sleep mode

The Cons is a short list but one is really annoying.

  • Only 3 Temps
  • Glass Mouthpiece is Very Hard to Remove for Cleaning
  • NO BATTERY LIFE INDICATOR

As you can see the list of cons is short but the most obvious is definitely the lack of having a battery life indicator. Flowermate how could you forget such a feature, even at this price point.

Final Thoughts

I believe priced at $79.95US the Slick is a must have for beginners or even the connoisseurs. It’s perfect for that throw in you backpack unit to bring to the lake or camp for passing around at the fire. If you accidentally drop it or break it, you won’t be to upset as you did not break the bank to purchase it. I do recommend grabbing a couple extra batteries and a charger like a Nitecore to properly/safely charge your batteries. Yes you can charge via the USB on the side of the vape but a charger will get the job done faster and safer.

The famous Pax brand has been leading the vaporizer world with its branding, iPhone quality comparison and impressive presentation. But are you paying for quality, performance or just the branding? This was my biggest concern before getting my first Pax unit. To this day, I am not sure if I would have pulled the plug on such a premium-priced unit but thanks to Randy at PuffitUp for sending me one of his own Pax 3 to test and review. Thanks Randy, I truly appreciate it along with everything you have been doing for the vaping community.

The Pax has been reviewed a million times and you might have probably read over a 100 different versions but I assure you this is the one to read for anyone looking into getting one of these bad ass vaporizers!

Pax 3 Review Unboxing and First Impressions:

As I mentioned earlier, upon receiving and opening the parcel, you are quickly welcomed by this beautifully designed box that almost makes you want to caress and open it slowly to preserve its beauty. So trust me, you will want to grab a sharp knife or scissors so you can slowly cut the protective seal and push out the outer sleeve to reveal the actual box holding the Pax 3. It’s nicely placed, protected and meticulously organized in a manner that every accessory is jumping right at you. It is indeed impressive presentation. This is where I believe Pax excels (admit it, first impressions do count), so if the boxing is that great then one can just imagine the quality of the actual product.

Pax 3 Accessories:

Whenever I get a new vaporizer, the first thing I always do is get the battery charged overnight. It’s a great practice that everyone needs to adopt. I know we are all so anxious to get that first draw from the new shiny vapes, but trust me, the first initial charge is an important step in ensuring the best overall battery use and life. As the unit sits quietly charging, I usually utilize this period to go through all the accessories. In this regard, the Pax 3 complete kit has a lot of accessories to go through. The first accessory I went through was obviously the charger as I needed to get it attached to the Pax in order to get the charging process started. I must say that the charger is TINY!! It is by far the smallest I have ever seen. The one I received is the newer version and is way more compact than the charging dock that they first shipped out with.

It is by far the smallest I have ever seen. The one I received is the newer version and is way more compact than the charging dock that they first shipped out with.

Next are two different mouthpieces to choose from. The Pax3 has, as part of its accessories, the ever so popular flat mouthpiece already installed along with a raised one. Yes, the flat one does look more Pax-ish as every picture posted always features it. It is great for its discreetness but I’ve always felt that it’s too hot on the lips. Also, having to basically have half your mouth on the unit itself isn’t just my thing…….guess I am one of the what like 12 people on earth that prefers the raised mouthpiece!

Once you’re done with the mouthpiece, up next is the handy key-chain multi-tool which is great for removing the mouthpiece for cleaning or switching from flat to raised. It’s also used for cleaning out the spent cannabis and to also help tap down the herb as you load the chamber. And then you have the much-awaited concentrate adapter. I’m yet to try it out as I love my flower and wax/oils. The last but not least accessory is a nice little pouch to carry and protect your expensive Pax 3 …….yeah, it’s expensive!

Tips and Tricks for the Pax 3:

After charging the unit all night, you first need to do a couple of burn-offs to get the unit rid of unwanted manufacturing oils, if any was left behind. I normally do a couple at full temp and let the unit go until it shuts off automatically. By the way, make sure you hold the unit and move it once in a while or it will shut off automatically to preserve battery life! I did this for a good 10 minutes and blew into the mouthpiece every now and then. With that done, you’re set to use the Pax 3.

Ease of use:

This unit is not at all complicated to use. Simply pack the oven, located at the bottom of the unit, and press the top of the mouthpiece once to turn the unit on. Then hold it down for about a second to activate the temperature selector and keep pressing until you get the desired temperature you want to vape at. To activate the oven, just give the unit a shake (Easy Peasy). The temperature presets are one petal light 360ºC; two petal lights 380ºC; three petal lights 400ºC; four petal lights 420ºC. If at any time if you wish to check the battery life, give the unit a really good shake when it’s on and the battery life will be indicated by the number of petals that light up in white (4 white petals means fully charged, 3 means 3/4, two indicates that you’re halfway to needing to charge the unit. At one, I would recommend charging the device as there is nothing more insulting then getting ready only to discover the battery is dead; or worse yet a battery dying during a sesh!)

For those of you who are more of a techie and want to be able to fine tune temperatures or take advantage of the 5 preset modes (standard, boost, efficiency, stealth and flavor) the Pax 3 offers, then you better get your cell phone and download the app from google play or Apple app store. With the Pax App you will have full control of the unit and take advantage by setting your own preset temps, change petal colors, brighten or dim the L.E.D lights intensity. With the app, the possibilities are endless. Making an explanation of all you can do with the app would only extend this review…so just trust me, the apps does wonders!

Performance & Vapour Quality:

Now we’ll talk performance and battery life of this tiny vaporizer. As you remember, the Pax 3 comes with a half pack lid. This little accessory is by far the only lid the unit should come with, in my opinion, as when using the regular lid, it allows too much of a large load. This causes unevenly spent flower as the Pax 3 is still only a conduction unit —even though I know you expect convection at such a premium price. Based on my tests, the best result is achieved using the half pack and using it to also improve on the taste as well. So when you load the oven, you need to load it with a nice fine grind and make sure to pack it enough. But take care not to pack it so much that it cuts the air flow or draw. Then put the half pack lid back on.

My preference is for the 2 petal temp – 380ºC. With it, the first thing you notice when you activate the heat on this tiny unit is how fast it gets to temp! It takes only like 20 seconds and on the first draw you actually get a decent vapor production. The taste is also really good after the first but once you take around 3 draws it dissipates very quickly at each draw after that. On the bowl, I’d normally get a good 10 to 12 draws with thick vapors —but not tasty ones! If I’m being honest, it vapes like a typical conduction unit and the vapor gets pretty hot and harsh on the throat for such a premium priced unit. But I will admit that the battery on this tiny unit surpasses many extremely large competitive vaporizers out there! The 3500 mAh battery for this size vape is like throwing a Hemi in a Toyota Tercel, it’s an overkill, but you will truly enjoy the power it delivers.

Warranty & Price:

This beautifully designed unit is backed by a limited 10 year warranty! Which is a pretty impressive warranty for a portable unit.

So, the reasons for the high price? From my perspective, there are cheaper units that will surpass its average vapour output for close to half the price. You will not get any fancy phone apps or beautiful finishes like the Pax but lets face it are you buying a vaporizer for its looks or for great tasting vape, draw after draw? Would I recommend the Pax 3? If one is looking for the most discreet, most pocketable, crazy battery life unit …..hell yes!! But if one is looking for pure taste and smooth fresh cool hits ……..sorry but I would recommend another brand 🙁

Pax3-Sideways-Treestump-Woods

Final Thoughts:

With all that said, since having the Pax 3, it has become a daily driver. Even if it does not deliver as well as some others on taste and smoothness it’s always in my pocket as I walk out the door. It’s the kind of unit that you just get attracted to with its beautiful finish and sexy sleek look and making it a must-have in your pockets for all kind of activities. It’s really handy to use in public and super fun to pass around as no one will realize that you’re having a sesh right in front of them! And let’s not forget that crazy battery that just keeps going on and on!

Hope you enjoyed the read and learned the true side or at least my side of the Pax 3 story.

Vape On!
